What makes a good soil?
A simple question
with a complex answer: as professionals we cannot afford to
overlook the basics.

On the coast we need a soil that drains properly while still
retaining some moisture. An over abundance of silt and clay
(fines) such as is found in native soils will cause drainage
and compaction problems. Overly compacted soil does not allow
for the proper movement of air, water and nutrients which
are vital to plant life. A proper blend of sand and organics
is the best bet for our area.

Soil should provide a reasonable nutritional base with a broad
spectrum of nutrients and micronutrients available to the
plant material. Soil analysis should be current and available
upon request.

pH is a critical factor in soil performance, affecting a variety
of factors from nutrient availability to overall plant health.
The C:N ratio is an excellent indicator to determine how well
your project is likely to succeed.
